Bechina Yerushalmi Torah Syllabus

Description and Aim

This course follows the Tanach and Mishna curriculum specified by the organizers of the Bechina Yerushalmi, and is meant to prepare students for successful performance on the Written Torah (Torah SheBikhtav) and Oral Torah (Torah SheB’al Peh) portions of the Bechina Yerushalmi exam. While the Bechina Yerushalmi is meant to focus on bekiyut, i.e. covering a large amount of material with limited in-depth analysis, by splitting the material over two years, students will be able to both cover the material as well as acquire and utilize analytical tools needed for in depth Tanach study.

Students are expected to master the plain meaning of the following chapters of the Written and Oral law.  In addition to the texts themselves, students may cover ancillary chapters and secondary material, utilized in the analysis of the primary texts. Students will also learn foundation skills needed for the study of Tanach, including: use of computer programs, deriving meaning of words using the root and conjugation, and of sentences using syntax, context, and ancient, medieval, and modern translations and commentaries.
