כור TWOT 967 ( of foll.; perhaps be or make round , hence furnace, pot, basin , from shape; Arabic كَارَ ( kāra ) wind about (e.g. a turban), كَوْرٌ ( kawrun ) turn or twist (of turban), كُورٌ ( kūrun ) blacksmith’s fire-place, hornets’ or bees’ nest , كَارَةٌ ( kāratun ) bundle; كُور ( kūr ) means also a camel’s saddle (or ‘ howdah ’) with its apparatus, v. I . [ כָּר S 1033 GK 4122 ] n. [ m. ] basket-saddle , בְּבַר־הַגָּמָל Gn 31:34 in the camel-basket , i.e. the basket-saddle of the camel, a sort of palankeen bound upon the saddle proper ( cf. Kn in Di and reff.) for basket-saddle read < camel- palankeen; the palankeen, or tent-like erection, on the saddle ( Burckh Bedouisns and Wahabys, 266 Doughty Arab. Des. i. 437, ii. 304 Lane Mod. Egyptians (5) ii. 158 al. ), which seems intended here, is distinct from the basket or pannier (in which some women also travelled, Porter Travels ii. 232 ). II . כַּר v. in alphabetical order.
